Make sure you stay for the Port Douglas Sunday Markets. It’s a lot of fun and you’ll get to experience a lot of local produce and street food that you’d otherwise be unlikely to get during the week. Start early because it get’s very hot out in the sun. By eleven o’clock the sun is high and so is the heat. Cool off with a pressed cane juice and lime drink. If you like coconut then the coconut shredding stall is a must see (and sample), yum. Wander the stalls and you’ll likely be able to stock up on some nice artisan breads, pastas and produce. There’s an vast array of clothing and and crafts stalls, and if you want your fortune read, the tarot card readers are there too. The frozen bananas on a stick are also a welcome refreshment.
